This Year Raksha Bandan auspicious time is 5:13 pm onwards....

This year RakshaBandan day is being celebrated on the 5th day of August 2009. However, due to "Vishti Karana Yog" Sisters should tie the Rakhi on their Brothers' wrist only on and after 5:13 pm (17:13 Hrs) in the evening. "Vishti" is very inauspicious Yog. This Yog ends at 5:12 pm (17:12 Hrs) on 5th August 2009. It is said that it is not a good ‘karana’ for any activity other than being aggression and attacking enemies and obstacles. This is the ‘bad’ karana and nothing positive should be undertaken.

According to ‘Vasishta’ the functions of Vishiti Karana are as follows:

"killing, use of poisons, fire, arrows, or instruments, cutting and use of black magic, functions using horses, buffaloes and camels will be successful on a Vishiti Karana day. One who wants to be prosperous in the world should not have an auspicious function during a “Vishti Karana” period. Functions performed out of ignorance end in destruction."

Shravan Poornima starts from 5th August 2009 at 03:58 am (03:58 Hrs) in the morning and ends on 6th August 2009 at 06:24 am (06:24 Hrs) again in the morning. Sun rise is at 06:13 am on 6th August 2009. Due to Lunar Eclipse falling also on this day in the early hours, Raksha Bandan is not celebrated on 6th August 2009. Therefore, this year, the Raksha Bandan is being celebrated on 5th August 2009 on and after 05:13 pm (17:13 Hrs).
